Exchange 2003 - OWA - Japanese - weird issue

Hi all,

I have an Exchange mailbox which is only ever accessed via OWA.

Whenever we receive an email in Japanese, on "first reading" it

appears correctly with all the correct characters etc.

Once it has been previewed/clicked once, and then clicked away from,

when we reclick onto that email, the characters are now all garbled.

If we forward the email onto a non-Exchange account, still garbled. If

we view using another web browser, still garbled. It looks like simply

viewing it on OWA causes something to happen to the email itself.

Can anyone suggest where to start troubleshooting? Am at a complete

loss.

Thanks,

Raj

Sorry, one more thing. The mail "subject" remains intact, it's only

the message body which seems to be getting affected.

I would open a ticket with Microsoft.

Try Exchange Online http://bit.ly/free-exchange-trial

D

david

Right click on the mail message, select 'properties' or 'options',

look at the Internet Headers.

What has changed?

Download the "Exchange OWA Admin Tool" and look at the encoding options

Hi there,

We are a VERY small business (myself and one other person) so try and

keep all costs to a bare minimum. I can do this as an absolute last

resort, but was hoping there may be some things to check first?

Of course, if you mean that "this issue looks really weird, trust me,

contact MS", then I will definitely do that =)

Thanks!

Hi I am Japanese Sys Admin in US.

I know we are not usinig English version of Windows

We have Win2k3 R2 JPN and Exch 2k3 Sp3 JPN

Make suer You have reginal Setting In control panel Win2k3

"Regioal and Language Options"

Languages TAB Install files for East Asian Languages has checked

Also, Try change Advanced TAB, Language for Non-Unicode programs to Japanese

from English

Code Page Conversion Tables 10001 (MAC-Japanese) has check and rest of

Japanese has checked.

Check Exchange System manager

First organization(Exchange)

Recipients - Details Tamplates

Japanese Folder is exsisted

Can you see inside of folder has

$B%f!<%6!<(B

$B%0%k!<%W(B

$B%Q%V%j%C%/%U%)%k%@(B

more

If you can not read the contents like "[][][][][][][][]"

then please add East Asian language in Regioal and Language option as I

discribe above

Content-Type: text/plain;

charset="iso-2022-jp"

Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Plain Text

Encodin:7bit may not work

7bit is not enough bit to display Jpn char

Also, I assume You use IE, Add Japanese language in tools Internet Option

This might help.

Sorry for my English

I can give you my Japanese Mail as example

When you first get the mail message, examine the headers

first. Then compare the headers to what you are seeing after

the message has become corrupted.

In any case, I'm thinking that this is

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952583,

which should have been fixed in SP2:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906669

Have you applied SP2 to your server? You won't get it from

automatic updates: you have to do it manually.

Hi there,

We already have SP2, but remember, we are Exchange 2003 so not sure if

it applies.

Things have become even stranger:

- the sender re-sent the original email yesterday which did not

corrupt despite multiple log-outs/ins etc on OWA and Outlook 2003.

- This morning, the resent email looks fine in OWA BUT now looks

corrupt in Outlook 2003

- The corrupt letters/symbols in the resent email match the previous

corrupt email exactly

- The previous corrupt email still looks corrupt in both OWA and

Outlook

- Clicking "reply" on the resent email in OWA makes the text corrupt

on the reply email, and this corrupt text matches the previous corrupt

email text.

Headers look the same to me. I am going to ask him to re-send one more

time, and then get the headers straight away from that in Outlook 2003

and then compare.

Thanks again guys,

Raj
