Mailbox database size still large after moving out indiv. mailboxe

D

DP

We're in the process of moving individual mailboxes to other Exchange storage

groups. The moves have been successful, but we're finding that the mailbox

size of the original storage group (and its backups) are remaining the same.

We've listed out the mailboxes under the original SG, and confirmed that the

ones we moved are no longer there.

Are there any other diagnostics we can do to determine why the storage group

size hasn't decreased? Or is this a known issue and is there a fix available?

Thanks.

Moving (or deletig) the mailboxes won't reduce the size of the

database. That will just create a lot of empty space within the

database.

Move the remaining mailboxes out of the database and then dismount the

database and delete the database files. mouting the database will

produce an empty database.

You can also use eseutil and do an off-line defrag of the database but

that takes the database offline for a while (how long depend on how

much data remains in the file).
