Running Outlook 2007, I am getting an error when I try to import addresses saved in the .pst format that says: "the messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, close outlook and restart it" I have tried that.. I even uninstalled office 07 and resinstalled it, and the same error appears.. HELP!

I tried your suggestions, however, where is the contact folder that you are talking about located.. I have several contact folders and tried to do what you said, but had no luck in transferring the contacts.. I need to know specifically how to copy the data to my existing contacts..

Please HELP again.

Firstly if you'd done even a modicum of research you would have discovered that importing a pst file does all sorts of mischief.

Copy the pst file to your Documents folder. Check that the Read-Only attribute is off.

Then open Outlook and do File-Open-Outlook Data File and navigate to where you put the pst file.

Then copy the data to your existing Contacts folder.

There is out-dated information on some of these pages, specifically with regard to Outlook 2003 and 2007.

The main points to note:
1. Do NOT use the import/export function to move Outlook data from one version to another - all you need to do is to copy the pst file, with Outlook closed.

2. Do NOT paste the copied pst file into the default location - paste into (for example) your Documents folder and then do File-Open-Outlook Data File within Outlook.
