Hello, I have been getting this alot lately in outlook when i try to open mail items.

Cannot open this item. The file C:\users\myname\appdata\local\microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst cannot be accessed becasue another workstation has modified it. Close then restart all mail-enabled applications. you might need to restart your computer.

I do not have any other workstations attached to my computer and I am the only person working on this one.

Things i have already done:

Run a Diagnostic

Compacted my data file (it is now 1.7 gb)

Outlook keeps crashing on me and this is getting annoying.

any ideas would be appreciated.

What addins do you have installed? Something is accessing your pst - it could be sync software for a smartphone, antivirus scanner, windows search, or other software that accesses outlook's data.
 
Perform the scanpst, if there are any errors in the pst file, it would be fixed.

If this fails, check in clean boot. Clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Ms. Poremsky, I've been a fan of yours for years. Great diagnosis. Indeed, I was having this error message pop up only after setting up iCloud sync (iCloud add-in!) so that my iPhone calendar and tasks would sync with Outlook 2013. Do you know if there is a "fix" for this, or this just an unavoidable problem associated with syncing Outlook with iCloud?
 
Are you getting it on mail items? It's odd that you are getting the error with icloud - it sucks contacts and appointments out of the pst and into the icloud data file.

Does it happen if you start Outlook in Safe mode? To open Outlook in Safe mode: Close Outlook then hold Ctrl as you click on the Outlook icon. You'll get a message asking if you want to start in Safe mode. Click Ok.
