This started happening all of a sudden. Please help! Cannot open any links in emails. Error message pops up stating " General Failure......The system cannot find the file specified."

What E-mail client are you using? (Outlook? Windows Live Mail? Eudora? Something else?) What browser are you using? (Internet Explorer? FireFox? Chrome? What version?)

If it's Internet Explorer 8 (or 7 probably) try going to Tools | Internet Options | Programs and click the button to make IE the default browser.

If it's Firefox you'll probably need to edit the registry. Go to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxURL\shell\open\ddeexec key and delete the value that appears there. Close the registry editor and the problem should be fixed. By the way...if you're having this issue with Firefox it probably means you're using an old version of Firefox - upgrading to 3.6 would be wise.

I know this is an old thread, but the same problem occurs on Firefox 3.6.6. Altering the registry gets rid of the error but renders links still unusable. Vista 32 bit, Outlook 2007. Not sure what caused this to startNew To Vista
