We bought a new Toshiba laptop (A505-S6980) last December, and I have been having issues with Outlook from Day 1. I've just kind of dealt with it because you can get around the issue if you wait long enough. Well it's finally started to send me over the edge.

Whever I open Outlook, it starts sending and receiving mail, and it usually pops up an error message. I can't remember the code, though. When I click the details, it usually shows that it sent messages, but couldn't receive them. It does this whenever I have Outlook open, however if you keep clicking it, once in a while the message will come through. Now more recently, whenever I try to send an email with pictures or attachments, it does one of two things. Either receives messages and gives me an error message for sending, or just says send/receive complete and doesn't send the message that is in the outbox.

Has anyone had any of these issues? What did you do to solve them? I've called Toshiba and my internet service provider, and they both say that it is a Microsoft problem. Because I have the Enterprise version of Office, Microsoft won't help me for free - they want me to pay $50 for help.

Any help or ideas are appreciated!
Thanks!

What happens when you try to open Outlook? Post the complete error message to help you better.

Do you get any error numbers while sending emails?

Try the below mentioned steps:

Click Start->Run (Windows key + R key) and type Outlook /safe->click ok.

Does outlook open without any error messages, if it does try disabling add-in(s). Refer the link below on how to disable add-in(s).

If the above step fails try creating a new Outlook profile following the article mentioned below and check if it helps.

Without knowing the exact send/receive error and which account type you are using, it is hard to provide any specific answer.

Often send/receive issues are caused by having a virus scanner installed which integrates itself with Outlook. Uninstall this integration part of your virus scanner and try again; you'd still be sufficiently protected by your on-access scanner part of the virus scanner. For more details see;

When I open Outlook, it starts to send/receive messages. It sends any messages with plain text (no attachments or files), and then pops the error code up for receiving. The Preparing to send/receive is at the lower right of Outlook for a long time.

This is the first error code - when it won't receive messages. Does this help? **Task'email@address - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'**

When I try to open Outlook in Safe Mode, this error message pops up **The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using.**

Also, this happens the same way in Windows Live Mail. What could be the problem?
