I am trying to understand what would cause the Domain Controller not to respond. Any Ideas?

You are missing all the pre-reqs....Start with the Remote Administrator tools (RSAT) to get the Schema prepped. See link at bottom to get list of all pre-reqs

From powershell:

Import-Module ServerManager

Add-WindowsFeature RSAT-ADDS

Reboot server and try again.

(Or you can add them for the Features section of the Server Manager GUI)

See this link for all the pre-reqs: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691354.aspx

Hi

A little tip, all these prereq's can be easily installed by using:

servermanagercmd -ip z:\scripts\exchange-typical.xml

Z: is the cd/dvd , in the folder you will find exchange-*.xml files that could be used, it's really smooth

I have done what you both said but to no avail. I even check to make sure RSAT was installed and it was. Any other ideas?

After all the pre-reqs were installed, you are still getting the same message in your error logs? Please post the new setup log.

Can you prep AD from a command line successfully?

Setup.com /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions
Setup.com /PrepareSchema
Setup.com /PrepareAD
Setup.com /PrepareDomain

Is windows firewall running on either server (exchange or DC)? Does exchange server have multiple nics?

Looks like there is an issue here. The guy that worked here before I did have set up another trusted domain in the forest, but then just got rid of the Domain Controller. How can I remove a domain in the forest that is trusted by other domains?
