I recently purchased MS Office Home & Student 2010. I then decided to purchase Outlook 2010. When I went to upgrade the trial version of Outlook that came with the computer it says the product key is invalid. Does anyone one know how I can validate my version of Outlook.

The product key for Outlook 2010 standalone will work only with Outlook 2010 trial and not if Outlook 2010 is a part of Office 2010 trial.

Ensure no multiple versions of Microsoft Office are installed on the computer. Open Programs and Features from Control Panel and then uninstall all versions of Microsoft except Office Home and Student 2010.

Try to install Outlook 2010 standalone and verify the status

I had the same problem and this solution worked very well. I made sure I only had Office Home and Student installed and then installed Outlook 2010 standalone via the DVD and it converted the trial version of Outlook 2010 to the purchased software without issues. (Specifically, and very important to me, all my mail and folders were still there unchanged.)Thank you.
