initial error: outlook 2003 on send/receive crashes outlook in windows xp: starts download of messages on server (POP3); i see the first message downloading, then crashes. That first message is then erased and downloads again next time. No error message in program interface. Do you want to start in safe mode? Yes chosen. Still crashes. Do you want to initiate a fix via the installer. Yes chosen. Error window: Patch package could not be opened. Verify it exists...
Current error: Now I can't even get in - crashes immediately. During the first error, which occurred 10? times, I could get in for 5 minutes or so before the crash as long as send/receive did not occur.
Tried to enable logging via registry as outlined in: What is the Enable logging (troubleshooting) option? article. No effect. No log found.
At one point Kaspersky internet security 2009 complained that a registry setting for outlook had a problem (not the same one related to logging above). HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-502162358-1993962763-839522115-1003\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook\0a0d020000000000c000000000000046/
Thats 10 zeros between the 2 and the c and 14 zeros between the c and the 4.
Proceeding to read whatever is available and try out solutions. I can delete the registry key above (10 zeros/14 zeros). I can restore the registry to 9 months ago. I can try to repair from the installation disk. I can re-install outlook completely.
Other events recently. Kaspersky detected a trojan virus. Suspect it's been there for 1 week. That's been taken care of. Installed and ran defraggler (a defragger) with outlook shutdown.
