Since moving to exchange 2010 I can no longer recieve email messages from other servers, such as my antivirus software, or payroll servers. I believe its any software with its own smtp engine. I am assuming that I need an entry somewhere on the exchange server to allow these servers to relay through the excahnge server. Any help would appreciated.

Well, just because something sends does not really mean it has its own SMTP engine in the same way that receiving systems do. Exchange 2010 won't accept messages from anything unless you specifically let it. Go to your Receive Connectors and tell us what the settings are. Whilst you're replying you will want to tell us if the boxes are actually going to relay or whether they're just submitting to people inside your Exchange organization.

Yeah, so setting up the receive connector for the a/v is the easiest since you're not relaying. The link to the receive connectors does give you help on allowing the relay for payroll.

As Mark Said by default 3rd party applications cannot use Exchange 2007/2010 you need to configure a receive connector for it, here is a link for that

Putting IP addresses of internal devices sending emails in allow list of antispam agent in the particular receive connector of each HT server should be enough to work.

Hi,

To allow your programs relay off exchange 2010, you need to create a new receive connector for relay message:

1. Open EMC, expand to Server Configuration->Hub Transport. Create new receive connector.
2. In Network tab, under "receive mail from remote servers that have these IP address", add the IP address of the servers which need to send the message through exchange 2010.
3. In Authentication tab, only select the option "Externally Secured".

4. Restart Exchange transport service.

Then test to see if the issue persists.

The directions above didnt work unfortunatly. Any other suggestions?

Maybe you should activate logging in the receive connector to see what's going on, and to have a look in the antispam logs.

Ther are a couple more steps that need to be added to gen lin's answer. You need to setp a connector with mailserver domain name and setp a couple of permissions, but it will get you started. Thanks for the help everyone.
