Disable Autocomplete in OWA 2010 for ALL users?

After viewing the posts here and here I have a hard time believing that Microsoft has not built-in a way to globally disable the autocomplete functionality in OWA. We are in the middle of a migration from a completely different domain name, which causes havoc with our end users as we are entirely OWA based (Macintosh shop). Asking our 100 or so migrated users to login to OWA light to clear the cache each day defeats the purpose of global management. We have another 1300 to go, and there must be a way to manage this functionality globally.

Each day sees more users migrated, but if a user has already sent a message to a recently migrated user at their old email address, it stays in the cache and cannot be removed easily. Ultimately, I would like to disable the autocomplete feature globally until all users are migrated, then turn it back on globally. Any ideas on how to streamline this?

Thanks -David

Hi David, I don't think that there is a way to turn off autocomplete, you can either use the steps to reset it, or you can assign migrated users an additional email address that is the same as their old email before the migration, thus users will receive those emails sent on their old email address. I think that the problem in planning the transition and the migrationRegards, Mahmoud Magdy Watch Arabic Level 300 Videos about Exchange 2010 here: http://vimeo.com/user3271816 Read pretty advanced Exchange stuff I post here: http://www.enowconsulting.com/ese/blog.asp, follow my blog: http://autodiscover.wordpress.com , corp blog: http://ingazat.wordpress.com and if you Liked my post please mark it as helpful and accept it as an answer

Busbar,

We planned accordingly and have their old email address as an additional address in the new system. They will get any email sent to their old email address on the new system.

The point is, the autocomplete for folks is a nuisance as it caches the old email address once they send an email to them at that address. They have no way of seeing who has been migrated unless they actually load the GAL and type the person's name in the search field. If they just click in the " To:" field, and say type " Tom" , they will get the old Tom@olddomain email address without seeing the new Tom@newdomain address.

My other point is that Microsoft must have a way to override this globally, not just individually. If not, then the problem in planning and (of) migrations lies with Microsoft. The onus is on us to resolve what Microsoft should have anticipated in the first place.

I see in all posts that a global setting is not available and this cannot be done.

Microsoft, can you say feature request?

Hi David,

It is hard to disable autocompleter in OWA2010 for all users.

By default, the AutoComplete Cache list is saved in your mailbox. It is loaded when you click the New button to open a new message.

In order to proceed further i can suggest you the following two ways (non-programmatic options):

1. Delete an entry from the list using OWA

2. Delete the entire list using OWA

1. Delete an entry from the list using OWA:

To remove one entry of the list, highlight the name in the list (arrow up and arrow down allow you to highlight the name you want to remove, and press the Delete button on your keyboard).

2. Delete the entire list using OWA

To remove all entries in the list, you can log on to your mailbox using Outlook Web Access Light

Go to Options - Messaging - Under Email Name Resolution - Click “Clear Most Recent Recipients List”

If you want to some customizing/coding related help, I recommend you to contact Microsoft Customer Services to get better help.
