I have a user who is trying to add a new contact to a customized Rolodex created in Outlook 2007. To her knowledge she was able to do this before but doesn't remember when the last time she did it. In troubleshooting a different forms issue with a user within the rolodex I cleared the forms cache which resolved her issue. I'm not sure however that is necessarily a good place to start in troubleshooting a forms issue or not any feedback would be appreciated.

Assume by "customized Rolodex" you are referring to a custom form which would have to be published to one of 3 places to be accessible - 1) the folder where the contacts are being created - 2) the Personal Forms library or 3) Exchange Organizational forms library. A form should never be published with the same name in multiple locations - leads to forms cache corruption. Updating/upgrading an Outlook config (new system etc) can also result in a missing custom form if it was not re-published depending on the procedures used for an upgrade (for instance, if a user changed their default mailbox (as in a new PST file) - then all custom forms in the Personal Forms library would be lost if not re-published since the info for those custom forms is contained in the default <Inbox> as hidden items).

Would verify that the form is still indeed published where it's supposed to be and re-publish it if necessary. Clearing the forms cache never harms anything but would verify if the form is published in multiple places and correct that situation if it exists.

So i logged on to the users pc and the actual message recieved when trying to create a new contact in the custom form is "the form required to view this message cannot be displayed, contact your administrator"

I looked under the username/local settings/microsoft/forms and verified that the FRMCACHE.DAT was their.

I then went to forms manager and cleared the cache hoping this would resolve the issue. I closed out of Outlook and reopened with the same result as before. "the form required to view this message cannot be displayed, contact your administrator" she is a part of the distribution admins group with full permissions.

At this point i'm at a loss as how to proceed. Please advise.

In addition i just discovered i can't open the custom form. i get a Thecustom form could not be opened. Outlook will use an Outlook form instead. Now i'm really confused. I've gone through her settings and compared them with a user who is able to access the custom form and add a new contact just fine and i can fine no settings differences.

Have you tried simply re-publishing the form on her system?

If you don't have a copy of it readily available - go to any system that uses it --> open a <blank new> contact --> from Outlook file menu --> SaveAs --> select .oft as the file type. Take the .oft file to the problem system and re-publish the form making sure to use the exact same form name. That should solve your problem.
