We keep receiving Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) on our Outlook 2003 & Outlook 2007 on multilpe computers thru same ISP from our home. The only info we can find thru Microsoft seems to be old info and has to do with using MSN which we do not use. AT&T is our ISP and they say it's not them but contact Microsoft. Tired of everyone pointing fingers at other parties and won't help and say... " Not their problem" . Outlook was working just fine on all computers up until the last month. Have same issue on Windows XP with Outlook 2003 as well. Any suggestions?

AT&T mail settings are available at AT&T's web site. The proper settings you shoudl use are probably these:

Email Program Settings Field:

Incoming (POP)

Outgoing server (SMTP)

(requires authentication)Incoming mail server:

User Name:Full AT&T email address, including domain

(e.g.,, mail port #:

995, secure connection (SSL) checkedOutgoing mail port #:

465, secure connection (SSL) checked

My settings have worked ok for years and all of a sudden recently stopped working. All of my settings were as you stated above except that AT&T never told me to change the secure settings from the default settings and put a check in the box for encryption. Actually I tried your 995 & 465 secure connections and they wouldn't work. I followed the link below and got success. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I Used the following settings for your internet email account in Outlook 2007:

Open Outlook 2007 click onTools > Account Settings > double click on the problem email account > click onMore Settings > Advanced

Ensure the changed the incoming POP mail port to 995 secure connection and the SMTP Port number is set as 587 for the Outgoing Server and encryption asTLS

Ensure to check the My Outgoing Server requires Authenticationoption under the Outgoing Servertab in More Settings
