Rather than having to set paragraph spacing with every message, I would expect there to be a way to set default formatting, but I can't seem to find it.

I recall in 2003, there was an opton to use Microsoft Word as email editor and my (now vague) recollection is that this supported default formatting. Would welcome assistance.

I really appreciate your response...The link you provided missed the first part of the process, however it put me on the right track. I found the link below easier to follow as it made me realise that I first had to create a theme in Word, then link to it via Outlook>Options>Mail Format>Stationery>Themes (save as custom theme).

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/customize-word-themes-to-use-as-stationery-for-messages-HA010277506.aspx?CTT=1#BM5

This doesn't create a default unfortunately but allows me to choose the theme upon opening a new message, thereby not having to redo the formatting each time. Interestingly, this custom theme (which I called 'Outlook') appears as a theme option in a new message only, not in the list of themes saved when you look under Tools>Options etc in the OUTLOOK main page.

I'd still welcome a definitive answer from Microsoft or an MVP who specialises in Outlook 2007, as this workaround didn't address the question. There surely must be a way to create a default format for emails, just as one can with Word.

Which exact things do you want to change and what doesn't work as expected for you now?

Instead of defining a new theme, you can modify the exisiting " Normal" style. Just right click on it in the Ribbon and choose Modify...

I have to agree with this user. All I want to do is set the default font, font color, and paragraph spacing for all new emails. I have tried the following with no success:

Modifying the normal style and saving, selecting " New documents based on this template" ; the normal style reverts on any new emailsCreating a new style and a theme based on the new style, saving that as a stationery, and set up the stationery as a default for new emails; Outlook inserts two lines of the old " normal" at the beginning of my new emailsOpening NormalEmail.dotm, modifying the normal style and saving. The changes are saved when I reopen NormalEmail.dotm but the style in new emails is the same normal style.Modifying the normal style in Outlook, then using import/export to save it to the normal template; normal style is unchanged for new emailsIs there a file somewhere that holds all of the Outlook styles? Despite the name, NormalEmail.dotm is not such a file.
