As of the October Security Updates no users on my network can see pictures in their emails. What we get is an email with no photos - no red X's - their is a small square that you can't see unless you click on it. The only options on the square when you right click is to Copy. If I copy and Paste I get nothing. Print preview shows nothing. MS Outlook 2007 fully patched on BOTH XP Pro and Windows 7 Pro - fully patched.

I've tried the following:

1. Trust Center - allow downloads

2. Emptied the temporary secure Outlook folder

3. Removed the registry entry for secure temp. Outlook folder

4. Recreated the registry entry for secure temp. folder and made sure the folder existed

5. I did not have the BlockHTTPImages registry entry so I:
A. created it
B. removed it

6. Check all the IE settings in both Advanced Settings and Security Tab

7. System Restore to 2 weeks prior to Security updates

8. Open email message | Click on Windows Circle | Editor Options | Advanced | Show Picture Placeholders - tried it both checked and unchecked.

9. Opened Outlook in Safe Mode

10. Setup a new profile.

I'm going nuts trying to figure out what is happening here! Any help is much appreciated.

Yes, I forgot to list that.

I started it in Safe Mode without any change in behavior & I also deleted and profile and recreated it.

The emails are HTML.

Thanks for your help!

Are these e-mails from internal users or external users or both? If you open the e-mail in a browser (open the message, Actions, View in Browser) do you see the pictures?

When viewing the email in a browser per your instructions above, the message is unchanged. The graphics still do not appear.

Thanks

Interesting. What kind of e-mail accounts are these? POP3? IMAP? Exchange? Hotmail? Something else?

R

Robert 3

Exchange 2000 SP3 on the backend, with Outlook 2007 clients fully patched on the front end.

Exchange 2000? O.K. If you log into their mailbox with OWA, do the messages look correct there?

R

Same result in OWA - no Pics. We are in the process of migrating to Exchange 2003. But only just now got the Exchange 2003 server up and running and installed patches etc... Have not begun migrating users yet.

Ahh...if you're seeing the same thing in OWA then the pics are getting stripped out before Outlook ever sees them. You might try asking about this in one of the Exchange forums. Are you using a Barracuda or similar anti-spam/security device in front of (or installed on) your Exchange server?

Aha! You are so correct Mr. Schorr! Thanks for the guidance. I took the issue up with McAfee - we subscribe to their SaaS email filtering product which was set to screen out images.

For the benefit of anyone else that has McAfee the setting can be changed by editing your Inbound Rule | Content | HTML Shield - replace all images links with a default transparent image.

Thanks again for your guidance.
