I am getting Error 0x00040820 in Outlook 2010 when trying to Send and Receive through a specific email account.

I have Office 2010 installed on Windows 7 (both 64Bit versions) and in Outlook I have some POP email accounts and 2 windows live email accounts set up. The problem only exists for 1 of the 2 @live.co.uk email accounts and happens every time I do a Send and Receive.

Initially I thought it was a sync issue, so removed the account from outlook then added it again but it hasn't got rid of the errors.

This is the latest item in my Sync Issues folder (which I only found out about when googling the error code just now), I can't make sense of the error:

Do you have a live or Hotmail account configured with outlook connector?

If so, which version of outlook connector do you use?

To check if you have a live account, go to file-> account settings. If you have an outlook connector account then try the steps below.

1. Check under control panel-> programs and features and Remove Outlook Connector 12.1/ 14 and reinstall the Outlook connector 14.

2. Remove and add the Hotmail account(s) through Outlook connector.

3. If the issue still persists then delete the OST files from the following location and then remove and add the Hotmail account.

Click on start > All programs > Accessories > Run > copy and paste the following text in Open field and then press Enter: %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Delete the .ost file(s) associated with the problem Hotmail account from the current folder location.

Refer the link to download and install outlook connector 14:-

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=39db2b89-af2e-41f9-a175-f93e1377959f&displaylang=en

For 32- bit:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=39DB2B89-AF2E-41F9-A175-F93E1377959F&displaylang=en

For 64 -bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=8a31fbf4-f4bf-4751-954b-5b36d80ec375&displaylang=en

If above steps does not work then try to createNew Outlook Profile and check if it helps.

Hi Ganesh,

Thanks for the help.

I had Outlook Connector 14.0.5117 (64bit) installed and my email address is an @live.co.uk account.

I uninstalled Outlook Connector, removed the @live.co.uk account that is having the errors and deleted the OST file before re-installing Outlook Connector (64bit) from the link you provided. After a while Outlook finished it's sync and I had a new OST file (396MB) and no send/receive errors.

However it has removed all my rss feeds and I can't see how I can restore them, I had items going back years that I was keeping. It would be really good to recover those. My old OST was in the recycle bin so I tried removing the new file and restoring my original - but outlook simply made a new OST and sync'd again ignoring my original. Can you tell me how I can access my old rss items?

Looking at my webmail I don't see any means for RSS feeds - so wonder whether that's what was causing my original issue?
