CAS Autodiscover using -rpcclientaccessserver

I'm setting up a DR scenario using a hot standby CAS server and switching to it using the set-mailboxdatabase <database1> -rpcclientaccessserver <drcas.domain.com>

The issue that I'm having is that my Outlook 2010 clients are not updating automatically to point to the DRCAS. Isn't this a function of autodiscover? In addition to the -rpcclientaccessserver switch, I have also changed DNS for CAS1 to point to the DR CAS. If I go in and manually reconfigure the mail profile it works fine, but I would like this switchover to happen automatically.

Have you changed the DNS of the existing CAS Array DNS host to point to the new one? If the existing one is still alive, then autodiscover will not do anything, because Outlook can still connect.

Yes, I have changed the DNS entry of the existing CAS server to point to the new one. I'm not using a CAS array since they are in two different sites (CAS array limitation).

The lack of CAS array I think is the cause of your problem here. Outlook will be using the old method of connecting, which means that the host will not change unless the mailbox is moved.

While a CAS array is restricted to a single site, it does not have to be multiple servers. It can be a single server. Therefore create a new host (outlook.example.com is very common) and point it to the current CAS server.

However, your problem is going to be getting the clients to pick up the change to a CAS array. Ideally you should have deployed a CAS array from the start. The only way that the clients will use the CAS array is by a new or repair of the profile.

So just create a CAS array with a single CAS server in each site? That will solve the issue with the Outlook clients not picking up the change in the -rpcclientaccessserver?

If you are create a CAS Array in each site, then any new profile will use the CAS array address.
However, clients that are already connected to the actual CAS server will not update themselves. That would require a repair of the Outlook profile. That is why I said it is best to have the CAS array in place from day 1.

Once you have the clients using the CAS array address, then a change to the DNS to point them at the other server should allow them to continue to work.
