Problems with Exporting Data by *.pst

Not open for further replies.

I"m using “Office Home and Business 2010” on a Windows 7 desktop computer, and when I export Calendar, Contacts, etc. for a backup, the file size has not increase in several months, even though I"ve added significant new data. It seems to be stuck at a point from three months ago – even though I just exported another new file to my backup folder today.

Today I imported the most recent data onto a new laptop (also Windows 7 and loaded w/ the same “Office Home and Business 2010”), and although it imports fine, it only shows the data from several months ago, even though I imported the file that I just exported to my backup folder today.

I"m following the normal Fileà Optionsà Advancedà Export to a Fileà Outlook Data File *.pstà Calendar + Subfoldersà And it makes NO difference if I select “Replace Duplicates” or “Allow Duplicates” or “Do Not Export Duplicates” … the file size is the same as it was three months ago, despite having added a good deal more data.

I"m able to use the Outlook program w/ no problem, it just doesn"t export any new data when I try to backup my Calendar, Contacts, etc.

Any suggestions to correct this are appreciated.

This may seem like an obvious question - but are you certain that you are importing from the same file that you exported to?

That said, really no need to "export/import" (and not recommended for the purposes of moving from one machine to another). All you need to do is copy your current PST file to the new machine (make sure that Outlook is closed on the original machine before copying the PST file) and open it directly in O'2010 - making it the default for the profile.

There are many posts on this forum that deal with the issue of moving info from one machine to another - two of which are noted below to get you started

Import contacts from Outlook.pst file into Outlook 2010

I have Outlook 2007 on a two year old computer running Vista. How do I copy my Outlook Contacts list and move them over to Outlook 2010 on a brand new laptop running Windows 7
