Cannot Close pst file

Problem is with Outlook 2010, I never had this problem with past versions of Outlook. I use hosted exchange and when my laptop is connected to the network I archive my mail to a pst folder I keep on the network drive. When I disconnect my laptop from the network without remembering to close the pst files in Outlook:

1. Outlook slows to a crawl and seems to endlessly try to reconnect to the pst folders on open.

2. Won't freaking let me close them! That is, if I right-click on the pst folder, the only option that appears is "open in new window". Any tricks for how I might do such a dastardly thing as close the pst file without being connected to it :) so that Outlook stops trying to reconnect ad infinitum?

Sometimes MS software just drives me crazy :).

close outllok. go to control panel, mail and edit the profile to remove them. You might also be able to remove them in outlook, using account settings, data file, but i'd do it with outlook closed.
