New e-mail alerts?

Hello,

For Outlook 2007, I would like to know how to automatically get notified of new e-mails of any of my inboxes, when they arrive.

I have already have my settings set up so that the inboxes are periodically checked (auto-receive), but even after that, I have to go click the '-' sign on my inboxes, in order to see new mail (in bold). There is no 'you have new mail' alert window (which is what I want). I even added each of my inbox folders to favorites. Not even that seems to help. Even a simple sound would be helpful.

Despite all this, normally when I get new mail, my favorite inboxes get bold marked. But now they don't. I had to unfold my inboxes so that my favorites turn bold. I don't understand.

Something is not working. How do I fix this?

What type of email account and which version of Windows? There are issues with IMAP accounts and new mail alerts and also with Windows 7 hiding the envelope icon.

Are new mail alerts turned on in Tools, Options, Email options, advanced options? The desktop alert is for the default inbox only - you would need to set up rules to display it for other inboxes (if you don't deliver everything to one inbox.)

Windows 7 x64.

These issues occurred with my POP/SMTP accounts.

The other ones are IMAP/SMTP but I don't know if this issue occurs there.

After setting a rule for 'receive mail from <contact> -> new alert window + sound', I finally get alerted of the mails I care about.

I think now it is just a matter of defining a rule for a safe senders list.

I don't know of a way to create a rule for safe senders - you can use 'in an address book' condition but not 'on safe list'. Many people on the safe list are in the address book - but not all. You could export the list and import it into a safe sender contacts folders then select that address book.
