Outlook 2010, super slow! IMAP issue I think

My Outlook is very slow for some reason. Every time I click on an e-mail it pops up a small box and says "Downloading" and sits there for 5 minutes downloading the message. Some e-mails were as small as 3kb and when I click on them it takes 3-5 minutes to open. While it is downloading if I clock anywhere else, Outlook freezes and shuts down. Also, whenever I send an email to someone it also sends the exact same e-mail to me and puts it in my inbox even though the only person in the "To:" field is the person I sent the e-mail to.




I am using IMAP not POP. Anyone have any ideas?
 
What imap server do you use? The copy of email to you is usually caused by the imap server - its most common with gmail.

There are known issues with imap hanging as you've described but I don't know of any real fixes. If you use antivirus that scans mail you should disable the email scanning features. Also, try opening Outlook in Safe mode and see if its faster. If so, another addin could be causing issues. (Hold Ctrl as you click on the Outlook icon to start in Safe mode.)
