Outlook makes every appointment recurring and set to the current date/time

I'm using Outlook 2010, previously using 2003 and I'm having the same problem with both: whenever I try to set up an appointment, it creates it for the acutal time I created the appointment, not the scheduled time, and makes it recur every day. For example, I tried setting an appointment today at 9:44am for a meeting later that day at 2:30. The appointment that is created on my calendar is for a meeting starting at 9:44 am and recurring every day ... forever. I have a brand new computer with a new install of Win7 and Office 2010, the only thing that is the same from when I was having this problem on my old computer with 2003 is my pst file.

Both the old and new computers are HP so I know this isn't the Dell issue. Help?
 
If you open the appointment, is the time correct? If so, you need to close outlook and reopen with the /cleanviews switch.

In the Start menu, search field or Windows key+R to open the Run command, type

outlook.exe /cleanviews

and press enter. Note, there is a space between outlook.exe and the /.

for the recurring problem, check the addins - its possible HP has something that does the same Dell. (The dell problem is here: http://www.slipstick.com/problems/recurringmeetings.htm)
