Cannot export contacts with Outlook 2003

[FONT=Verdana, Arial]I used to be able to export my contacts in .csv format just fine, but for some reason I can't do this anymore. I don't remember if it's because i reformatted or because i installed something.

I am running windows xp, sp3. Office 2003, outlook 2003,

When I go to file -> import and export -> export to a file -> click on comma separated values (windows) -> under "select folder to export from", there is nothing to select.

I can, however, export a .pst file just fine, however, I do not want to export a .pst, I'd like to export in .csv.

Is the resut the same if you choose one of the other file types?

Did you install everything? Control panel, add/remove programs, select Office, then click the change button. Select add/remove features then expand the outlook branch - is importers and exporters (especially the txt importer) set to run from computer?

yes . I can export as a pst file but not csv. i need the contacts in csv form to import to another program
 
i dont find the a way to expand the outlook branch.

I am using office 2003 not 2007.
 
ok so i have found it.

i think it is on the second one. how do i get it to stay on the top one.
 
sorry about that - somehow i brought up the wrong version and didn't think twice about it.




In 2003, on the first page, check the option for advanced customization. The second page will be very similar to the 2007 screenshot - and according to my 2003 test machine, none of the text converters are installed by default - they are 'on first run'. This means outlook is supposed to offer to install them when you need them.

BTW - here is a video of the steps. You can either install just the text filter you need (by setting it to run from your computer) or by installing all. (you don't have ot do both as i do in the video)

I'm not sure what you mean. The active dialog should stay on top.
 
i tried your instructions and it didnt work. really strange as about 2 months ago it was ok.
 
Can you pin down a date when it last worked? Check for updates installed after the last time it worked.

Also, try opening Outlook in Safe mode and see if it works as expected. (Hold Ctrl as you click on the Outlook icon to start in Safe mode.)

You can create a view with the fields you need, select all and copy then paste into notepad or excel and save as a csv. It will work for all fields except Notes (message body) - the notes field is limited to 255 characters.
 
i cant remember excatly.

safe mode also didnt work.

how do i do the copy and paste. i tried and it wouldnt copy.
