setting up appointment from to-do bar

Hi;

clicking on a particular day form the miniature calendar visible in to-do bar brings me to that day's "day view" in calendar.

Is it possible to set it up so clicking on a day in to-do bar will result in opening new appointment window for that day?

No, but there is an easy shortcut - Ctrl+Shift+A to open a new appt (but you need to add the date). If you click on a date so the calendar opens, ctr+Alt+A creates a new appt for that date. Also if you use Win7, right click on taskbar button (or hold the button as you slide the mouse towards the middle of the screen) to see the new item menu.
