Has anyone been able to use a .ics file to update (reschedule) an existing appointment in Outlook for Windows? I can do it with Outlook for Mac, but trying it in the Windows version fails to get rid of the old appointment instance - instead merely adding the updated appointment time/date to the old. I've been careful to make sure the UID matches in the two ICS files, and I even made sure that the SEQUENCE field incremented by 1 in the newer file. This works perfectly in Outlook for Mac, but I cannot get it to work in the Windows version. Any ideas?

Outlook has poor support for the ical protocol - my experience in trying to update/delete using an ical is the same as yours - it won't remove the old one from the calendar.

The mac version was written by a different team and mac has always supported icals - so your experience does not surprise me.

For the initial appointment, try with the following parameters along with others:

METHOD:REQUEST

UID:1234567890

SEQUENCE:0

For the subsequent appointment updates, increment the sequence number. E.g.

SEQUENCE:1

It may work for you. Good luck.
