Outlook 2010 and Multi-Part MIME Messages

Hi all,

we have a network printer capable of sending scanned documents as .pdf file to a user. If the mails get too large (more than ~16 pages) it splits the mail into several parts.

These parts were automatically reassembled into a single mail that contained the .pdf file as an attachment by our old Outlook2000 Client on WinXP. The original messages were moved to the trash.

After updating to Win7 / Outlook 2010 the mails are no longer assembled. Instead the individual parts are displayed (part x/y) and the mail text starts with the following header:

followed by base64-encoded data. I am neither automatically nor manually able to reassemble the attachment. Also saving the individual parts fails with a nonspecific error.

Can anyone help?

Outlook no longer includes file split/join capability - you'll need to use a utility such as this: http://download.cnet.com/File-Splitter-Utility/3000-2248_4-10397874.html. Search Bing for other file splitter and join utilities - there are a lot. That was just the first one i found - i don't think i ever used it (and haven't used one in years.)

Also, if you use a zip utility other than the compression tool included in windows, it might join the parts.

Now sure why you are getting en error when you save them - oh, is there a real attachment or just the text in the email body? You need to copy the text and paste into notepad and save it. It's been ages since i needed to do that so i forget the specifics... it would probably be easier to keep a computer (or virtual machine) with 2000 installed handy... <g>
 
BTW - Outlook Express and its replacement, the Live mail client, both support joining attachments - it might be easier to use one of those if you have imap access to the mailbox. (POP3 will work but if not configured right, will delete mail from the server.)
