email getting cut off

POP3
This started just this week to three different people on the same Windows 2003 small business network. The all are running Windows 7 pro and Outlook 2003 with pop3. What happens is they create an email, spell check it, and then send it. Sporadically the end of the email (anywhere from a sentence to a couple of paragraphs) get cut off. If you look at the sent items you see this, the data is just not there. Other times they get an email, edit it, and forward it, and the edits (cutting out a paragraph for instance) are back in the email. The rest of the time it's fine. They also run Symantec end point protection. Anyone ever hear of this? I scanned for malware with only tracking cookies showing up and there have been no major changes recently to blame this on.

I've seen it a few times, I think it's SEP behind the problem but will need to dig up my notes - but try this: before sending, always hit Save (Ctrl+S) and see if the problem goes away. Oh, and make sure all updates are installed.

Are you using cached mode or classic online?

I'm using the classic online. I created a new profile for one of the users. I will pass on the CTRL-s tip, thank you. Let me know about SEP causing the problem.

I went into the com addins under options, other and unchecked the Symantec connector, but he's still having the problem. I got on his system remotely and created 8 emails of various lengths that I sent to my account and could not reproduce the problem. Questioning further, this problem seems to happen when he does a lot of cutting and pasting and editing of the email. Would upgrading him to Office 2010 get rid of this problem?

I haven't found my notes yet. Windows 8 users are reporting a similar problem, but I can't repro it here, so i don't know if its SEP or Outlook 2003 incompatibility.

Generally speaking, upgrading won't fix problems. However, because of Outlook 2003's age and potential issues with updates to Windows 7, it might be a good idea to upgrade the affected user and see if it helps.

I wonder if you've had any luck with finding your notes. I did upgrade one of the problem people with Office 2010 and the problem seems to have gone away, but his intense emailing has backed off, so I'm not sure. I also upgraded the SEP from 12.0 to 12.1, but that has not seemed to help for the other two people. I looked at two of the problem systems and they both have the combination of Office 2003 and Windows Starter. Could that be a problem?

Just had it happen to another person. They have Windows 7 32 bit, SEP - latest version, Outlook 2003 and Word 2000. When upgrading to Office 2010, the problem goes away, but this is getting expensive.

I was looking for this thread earlier - Its Outlook 2003 / IE11 combination. Outlook sends the draft copy, not the final copy. Some users say that drafts are only saved the first time too, so if you edit a message for 15 min and drafts are supposed to update every 3 min, it only saves at 3 minutes, not every 3 minutes.

You need to uninstall IE11 and configure Windows so it doesn't get reinstalled.

Did Saving before sending fix it?

I believe that saving before sending does "fix" it, but the users are in a high pressure environment, so they don't always remember to do it. I will uninstall IE11 and see if that takes care of the problem. That also explains why it's been OK for years and just started happening "out of the blue". Thank you, I'll report back if this does not work.

Are you using the Outlook Editor? I can't repro with word as the editor, only when using the outlook editor. I haven't yet uninstalled IE11, most people say it works but a few said it didn't.

What i think happened is that IE11 (or another update) installed a shared dll that is causing the problem. I'm thinking it's the riched20.dll or something similar.
