I am sure in Outlook 95, 97 and 2000 you could add a local folder, drive or similar in Outlook? From memory this may have been a favourite in the Home tab. However it would be really useful for a lot of people who file individual messages either in My Documents or a network share.

I believe you are taking about the feature that allowed you to browse the hard drive from within Outlook. It was deemed to be a security issue - companies could lock users from browsing their hard drive with Windows Explorer... and the users could use Outlook instead. Plus they decided that making Outlook a "kitchen sink" took away from it's reason for being: a PIM. It was just Microsoft Bob with a new look. :) I remember the 98/2000 time frame when people wanted it to do everything - basically, Microsoft Works with Email.

You can add folder shortcuts to the Shortcut navigation pane - drag the folder to the Shortcuts group (or create a new group). It opens a windows explorer window - you can't drag mail to the shortcut and drop it though.
