I just got a new laptop. Installed Office 365 (Office 2106) on the new laptop. My Outlook mail is associated with my Google IMAP account. Regarding the calendar...
When I highlight a specific appointment on my calendar, the "Tags" under "Calendar Tools Meeting" only show "Private", "High Importance" and "Low Importance". What is missing is the drop down menu for "Categorize". On my Desktop computer which is running Office 2013, the drop-down menu for "Categorize" does appear.
Why is the drop down menu for "Categorize" missing and how do I get "Categorize" to be listed? Is there something different about Office 2106 that restricts this?

Is your calendar in a pst on the 2013 computer? With the ability to have calendar & contacts in the imap data file, categories (and flags) are not available because imap doesn't support them.

Yes, the calendar on my wife’s new Laptop is associated with her Gmail account, so I understand that categorize is not supported.

I want to configure the calendar on my wife’s Laptop the same way my Desktop computer is configured.

Here is how my Desktop computer is configured for Outlook 2013…

  • Only one calendar is listed in Outlook called “Calendar”. Location is "\\Personal Folder" (Outlook.pst file).
  • I’m able to use color Categories on this calendar
  • The Email account points to my Gmail account (IMPA/SMTP)
  • Data Files contains 2 entries…
    • My Gmail Account points to my “Gmail OST” located in “\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook”.
    • My Personal Folder points to my “Outlook.pst” located in “\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook”. This is listed as the “Default”.
Here is how my wife’s Laptop is currently configured for Outlook 2016…

  • There are two calendar listed…
    • “Calendar” Location is "\\Personal Folder" (Outlook.pst file).
      • This calendar initially was empty
    • “Calendar (This computer only)” points to “\\Gmail address”.
      • This calendar contained all my wife’s appointments.
  • Data Files contains 2 entries…
    • My Gmail Account points to my wife’s “Gmail OST” located in “\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook”.
    • My Personal Folder points to my wife’s “Outlook.pst” located in “\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook”. This is listed as the “Default”.
  • I copied all appointments from the calendar associated with her Gmail account to the calendar associated with her Personal Folder (PST file).
  • When I send a meeting invite to my wife, the appointment shows up in her “Calendar (This computer only)”.
My question is this – How do I get my meeting invites to show up on the “Calendar” and not the “Calendar (This computer only)”?

Do I simply remove “Calendar (This computer only)” on her Laptop, and by doing this, any invites that I send her will now appear on her one “Calendar”?

Would I need to do anything else in order to see my invites show up on the calendar in her PST file?

It sounds like you changed the default to the pst and moved all of the items in the 'this computer only' folders, including contacts and tasks to the pst folders... close outlook and go to %localappdata%\microsoft\outlook and rename the ost file. Restart Outlook and wait for the email to sync down. This will rebuild the ost file without the special folders.

As long as you are sure nothing was missed in the 'this computer only' folders, you can delete the ost you renamed.
