Using Outlook 2016 with a hosted Exchange server. Suddenly my new sent items started showing up as Bob Smith (bobsmith@sample.com) instead of just Bob Smoth (older sent items still show just the name).

Im using a custom view, but the default "Sent To" view has the same issue.
I tried creating a new view, the only field that I see that would be appropriaprate is "To" and under "Format colums" "To" can only be formatted as text (no other options).

How do I get the column to only show the name without the email address.

Thanks

Interesting note - It must have something to do with sending, not the view specifically. Looking at OL Sent folder, messages sent from my phone still show just the contact name not the extended format with the name and email address.

Is anything else messed up in your outlook? Like the autocomplete list is different?
Which version and build of Outlook are you using? See File, Office Account for the information.

The display names in the sent folder are the same as what is in the to field before sending - and there is a bg in outlook 2016/2019 that messes up the autocomplete field.

This article explains the bug -

Your mention of the auto-complete file got me thinking, a month ago I used NirSoft NK2 Edit to import and old list from OL2003. when I open the current auto-complete file sure enough the display names are in the format of Bob Smith (bobsmith@sample.com). If I manually edit the display name it appears to fix the problem in OL.

So now thanks to you I have identified the problem, the question is how to bulk fix it. NK2 Edit does have a search/replace feature but I dont think it supports wildcards. I thought I could export the current file and write a little VB program to fix the file but it looks like N2K edit will only import a "simple" CSV file. If I import the simple CSV the entries are no longer linked to the actual contacts.

So the new questions are:

1. Can you think of a way to batch edit/remove the email address from the display names in the auto-complete file?
(I am not opposed to deleting the current auto-complete file and starting over with the OL 2003 NK2 file if needed)

2. The OL 2003 file was from a different Exchange server. Ignoring the issue with the long display names for a moment, do yo think this is going to create any type of issues (ie I have no idea what the entry ID is for for example and if it has anything to with the older server or if it got updated to the new server info when I imported it)

Thanks
