Using Outlook 2007 as an IMAP Mail Station Without Saving Data Locally

Hi, I know this is a far-fetched idea, but a relative of mine (who has Outlook 2007 as I do, but doesn't actually use it, preferring webmail exclusively) was asking me whether it would be possible to set up Outlook in such a way that it could be used as kind of a desktop mail station for her...

Outlook 2007 - Reading Pane Automatically Downloads First/Topmost Message

Wow! You must set records for the quickest response time! Thanks! Just for the sake of precision, I'm not really referring to my "selecting" an IMAP message. When Outlook starts up and automatically checks mail at my FastMail IMAP account, whether there's only one new message or several...

Outlook 2007 - Reading Pane Automatically Downloads First/Topmost Message

Hi, In the past, experts warned email client users about the preview/reading pane in desktop clients (perhaps esp. Outlook Express), because of it automatically downloading messages thus viewed bringing all sorts of spyware, malware & viruses with it. Well, I'm not sure how things are...

Outlook 2007 Certificate Error for OpenMail.cc Provider

    1. To be specific: since I don't have Outlook set to retrieve messages at start-up, the cert. warning only shows up when I first manually click send/receive, not at 'start-up' itself. I then click 'yes' and it goes away for the duration of that Outlook session and until I close/re-open Outlook...

Outlook 2007 Certificate Error for OpenMail.cc Provider

Brief update: well, I've tried different things (like deleting all presently valid openmail related certs via the certificate manager), but I still get the warning about the out-of-date certificate when sending/receiving. Somewhere there's an out-of-date certificate hiding that even the...

Outlook 2007 Certificate Error for OpenMail.cc Provider

Ah. Okay. Unfortunately, there are no changes to make in 'settings.' "Choosing" either certificate results in the following... Which only compounds my confusion. I have up-to-date certificates from the OpenMail site in IE (and no out-of-date ones that I can find), but I...

Outlook 2007 Certificate Error for OpenMail.cc Provider

Thank you for the reply, but I'm afraid I simply couldn't figure out what you wanted me to do. As you can see with this screenshot, when I went to my OpenMail IMAP folder ("Sent") and opened a message as you suggested, there is no "Options" or "More Options," etc. I did go to Actions > Other...

Outlook 2007 Certificate Error for OpenMail.cc Provider

Gaaaaa!!! No edit button ! I didn't notice the convoluted sentence until the edit option was removed. :( The second sentence of first paragraph was supposed to say something like: I can see that the expiration dates for the relevant certificates are as late as 2020 or so.

Outlook 2007 Certificate Error for OpenMail.cc Provider

Hi, I have manually updated the certificates for one of my email providers (OpenMail.cc) as per the instructions here. In IE Internet Options > Content > Certificates I can see that the expiration date for the relevant certificate is many 2020 or so. But when I open Outlook 2007 to get...

Default Program for Opening .pst Files ?

Thanks. I guess I'll just let sleeping dogs lie at this point. ;)

Default Program for Opening .pst Files ?

Except for my reg showing "PROGRA~2\MICROS~1" it's identical to what you suggest. So, since the '10' is the key, everything should be fine, even though it doesn't seem to be the same one I saw initially. Whatever. As long as I didn't do anything bad that will come back to haunt me later. :)

Default Program for Opening .pst Files ?

Ah. Okay, thank you very much for that information. That relieves some of my anxiety. :) (My problem was that I was going to File > Data File Management, etc.) I have changed it now to Outlook (instead of Word), but it's not the icon I originally saw on the various Outlook data files...

Default Program for Opening .pst Files ?

Hello, Recently, while playing with the back-up and export function in my Outlook 2007 (on Windows 7), I backed up a folder as a .pst file. I was then going to try encrypting it to see how that function works within Outlook (not really knowing that much about it). Well, somehow with all my...

    Open Draft From Compose Window?

Well, at first I thought I would have to come up with some sort of start-up "switch." But I found an easier way. And this is probably not the only way -- or even the easiest or best way -- to set this up, but it was the first way I accomplished what I wanted. :-) In Outlook 2007, simply...

    Open Draft From Compose Window?

Well, at first I thought I wouldn't be interested in Diane's suggestion above, but I'm back to thinking I might like to go ahead and set up a shortcut to a specific draft just to see if it would be useful to me. How would I go about this?

Outlook Re-Downloading RSS Feed Posts Days Later

Diane, Yes, that advanced setting *was* checked. Thank you for the information. I'll uncheck it and see if that changes things. :-)

Outlook Re-Downloading RSS Feed Posts Days Later

I meant to say above: I never get duplicates downloaded *at the same time.* It's always one or more days later.
