In my emails when I type there is a funny symbol that is at the end of each paragraph, I must have changed something by mistake. It only happens when I start an email or reply to one. I is a black line that curls back to the left on the top. I get one for each paragraph.

I also can't get rid of the ruler on top of every window I open in Outlook 2010

if it looks sorta like a backwards P it's a pilcro - press ctrl+shift+8 to toggle it off.

The ruler icon should be on the insert tab (i think, but will double check) - turn it off and ctrl+shift+8 to turn off all marks then close the message and reopen.
