Outlook created new profile?

On my wife's Windows 10 with Outlook 2024, using IMAP, I noticed that Carbonite was stuck trying to back up a file called NewProfile~1.srs.
I found out that it was a new Outlook profile created 2 days ago. But not by my wife or myself.
And when I went into Control Panel I found that indeed NewProfile is the name of the only profile in outlook. When I went to the AppData/Roaming folder I saw that file as well as the original profile .srs file, with my wife's name, from 5 years ago.

Any ideas how this might have happened?

(BTW since Carbonite was stuck I rebooted, and Carbonite is happy now and shows that .srs file was backed up 2 days ago.)
 
Outlook likely created a new profile automatically, often due to a corrupted old profile or an IMAP configuration issue. The NewProfile~1.srs file stores the new profile’s send/receive settings. Carbonite got stuck backing it up while in use, but rebooting fixed it. There’s no sign of a security issue—just Outlook switching to a new profile.
