Outlook can't remember outlook.com, Exchange password.

I have been having outlook/exchange asking for password when outlook starts. I can enter password and it asks again a few minutes later. or it may be a day between asking. This has been going on for several weeks. This means that connection with Exchange calendar is completely unreliable.

I tried deleting outlook.com credentials
I have tried deleting and reinstalling the outlook.com account.
Have tried creating a new data file. Aside from this requiring re-entering other email accounts and redoing settings, it outlook no longer can find the exchange server on its own. So I don't get to see my calendar.

Anyone else having this issue.? I have had it on more than one computer.
Is there a problem with Exchange?
 
another nail in the outlook coffin.
I am looking for another Calendar app that will communicate with Exchange. Or maybe figure out how to completely change email and calendar operation, and get away from needing Exchange to connect calendar with Iphone.
 
Not 365. Outlook.com which is , i guess, a MS Exchange server.

I use companionlink to sync contacts between outlook and iphone. that happens maybe biweekly. Calendar entries happen too often to use an app. they need to show up automatically on iphone and 2 other computers.
 
looks like GoSyncMod syncs with google calendar. No google here. would need to sync with iphone calendar.
 
regarding the original question about OL16 asking for password. I've noticed that if I close and reopen Outlook twice (ie: 3 starts) it tends to maintain connection with exchange. Otherwise, it often maintains connection for a minute or two, syncs, then drops connection and asks for password. Then I close and reopen a couple of times, and it is good for rest of day. Weird.

I have been experimenting with some firewall blockages, but it isn't clear that this is affecting it. unless OL16 only periodically syncs password? who knows..
