Hello I am an MS365 user on a Mac. I made the switch from a Windows computer about a year ago after being a lifelong Windows user and after a lot of consideration!!! It’s been good and not so good. Some things do not work like they do on a Windows machine. That is not good!! But having a Mac with iPad, Iphone, Apple watch and better software updates/reliability with Apple is good!

One thing that has not been good is how Outlook works. I’ve lost a lot of functionality and ease that was there on the Windows machine. And now, they’re doing away with Legacy support, which I found to be better than the “new” Outlook. I want to backup my Outlook before switching off Legacy. I do not know how to do that. Can someone tell me how? Also, can you share your experience with new Outlook on Mac vs. Legacy? Any hints, tips, gotchas I need to know before switching? Thank you! Donna

If you are using IMAP or Exchange accounts, everything is on the server. If you have anything in the On My Computer folders, those can be exported - in an OLM format, which is only used by outlook. If you are switching to new outlook, it can import the On My Computer folders.

Depending on how much mail you have, you can drag it to the desktop (or a folder) - obviously works best if you don't have tons (because it's manual labor), but you can select all messages in a folder and drag. Same for calendar & contacts.

I was never enamored with legacy, but yes, it's better than new Outlook. I ended up getting Parallels for my MacBook so I could have a decent Outlook but I use it for work and can justify the cost ($100 a year) - and I have a subscription to office so didn't need another office license. VMWare now offers their desktop software free - I might switch to it when the parallels subscription ends.

Thank you Diane. It was Exchange and I could see that when I had Windows. I don’t know how to tell with Mac. I went into Settings, under Microsoft Account, it has a server with a url for outlook office 365. I hadn’t thought of virtual software, but that’s a good idea. However, I can’t justify the annual cost for Parallels - I saw that they have a perpetual license for $129. That might work. I will also investigate VMWare - I have an M2 MAC and an MS365 subscription. The problem is, the little bit I read about Virtual Machine Software for MAC looks technically intimidating to me, I’m probably going to have to get professional help with that!

parallels is probably better if you are intimidated - they have a ready to use windows image to use. it says unlicensed but should continue to work without a license. (I should test that - I had a spare license I used for it - stacksocial often has low cost windows licenses available.)

sorry Diane I don’t understand what you mean here: “It says unlicensed but should continue to work without a license”

When you use parallels, you are using a virtual windows computer. Parallels has a ready to use virtual Windows machine but it does not have a Windows software license. It will work unlicensed.
