I just changed email id's, deleted the original and added new email to iphone mail app (IOS 14.4) as an "Exchange" account, which I thought was the correct way to add it. My original email (which I still have) was hotmail and I know MS ported to Exchange account some time ago. Outlook (MS365 Personal Subscription) on my laptop is a Microsoft exchange account.
This message came up while adding the email id on the iphone: "Adding an Exchange account will allow the Exchange admin to remotely manage your device. The admin can add/remove restrictions and remotely erase your device" It also listed an Exchange device ID - a very long string of letters and numbers.
What does remote mgmt mean for my personal MS365 email account on IOS devices and Outlook Exchange account on my laptop? Who is the remote Exchange admin? What control do they have over my accounts? I don't have any choice in the matter - MS converted my acct to Exchange a while ago and I've never had any issues, but I didn't realize they had any control over my email! What does this message mean for me? I am not using a work or school account.
Is Exchange the correct way to set up IOS mail app for my outlook email? I think I can choose 'Other' during setup. I don't want to use Outook app, I prefer IOS mail. I still have to update my ipad with the new email id. thanks.
