Vainly searched for it: is it possible to 'hide' contacts from the active contact list?

Background: It may be that contacts should be deleted, but there is quite some info in the Notes-fields that should not be deleted.
That should show up when searching on specific details, i.e. details are only visible when being searched for.

Google Contacts does offer to 'Hide Contacts' see: How do I archive unused by important contacts from my contacts list? - Gmail Community

Note: I have not used that option yet, as I don't know how it would work out when synchronizing Outlook contacts with Gmail contacts.
