outlook getting stuck receiving

Outlook has starting hanging up while receiving email, often on the last email. It will say 'receiving 13 or 13 emails' and it keeps trying to receive. It will not send new emails when it hangs up like this. The only way I have found to unstick it is to restart my computer. Is there a better way? Anybody else had this problem?

How often are you checking for new email? Set it to at least 8 -10 minutes.

Are you using a virus scanner that scans email? If so, try starting outlook in Safe mode and see if it works better. (Hold Ctrl as you click on the Outlook icon to start in Safe mode.)
