Serious Outlook help needed!!!

First post to this forum and looking for some expert help on this...

My Situation has to do with my boss...

He has outlook 2007,

12GB PST file,

its mildly corrupted(needs scanpst twice a week),

using POP,

has over 400 folders,

over 3GBs of emails in his inbox from 2010 to present.

gets his email on this ipad and cell phone using IMAP also.

Ive been telling him for months that he needs to maintain his email and of course he doesnt... He is now freaking out on me to fix his situation and its really stressing me out. Whats the best plan of action on something like this??

Thought about getting outlook 2010 and starting a new pst file and importing his folders and archiving his older mail in his inbox and ad that to the 2010 account...
 
Upgrading is not going to be a magic fix.

Are you running scanpst because you think it needs fixed or because Outlook says it needs it? Scanpst will always find something wrong - it's not a sign of a failing pst file.

If he doesn't need to access the older mail frequently, he should archive it. I'd probably archive it by year. Should be ok to leave 2011 and 2012 in the current pst - at the end of this year, archive 2011. Only open the older archives in the profile if he needs to access mail in them - outlook will run faster/smoother this way.

Once you archive the older mail, if outlook does not complain about the pst being corrupt, keep it - otherwise export it to a new pst and swap them out.
