Hello,
I have an Outlook (2013) PST file that has gotten out of hand. It's approximately 30 GB, and I archive anything over 30 days old. Is there a way for me to break this file down into smaller portions because if something happens to the one large PST file, I'm done.
Also, I have two relatively new e-mail accounts, HotMail and GMail. They are saved to another directory in my %AppData%/ folder. I want to move everything to where my original PST files is located, can this be done? I really appreciate any and all help concerning this matter.

Thank You.

Gmail & Hotmail aren't easily moved. Both are server-based accounts and the offline store is usable only in the profile that created the account, so if you are moving it to make backup easier, that is not necessary.

you can use junction points to move them - Symbolic Links (Windows)

You may try to break your PST file by using either "Archive feature" or "Move to folder feature". These two are the best options to break a large sized PST files.

Does it actually have 30 GB of data in it? It may need to be compacted to clean out the white space. If it needs compacted and is grossly over the expected size, it may take "forever" to compact. Start the compact process then go for lunch.

Without knowing what is in it/how you use it, it's hard to say if splitting it into multiple pst files would be useful or workable - if you are pushing close to 30 GB a month through it, there really isn't much you can do.

If the size is due to RSS or large attachments, you can move RSS to a new pst and delete attachments from the items.

No, that 30Gb took about 16 months, not 30Gb/month. I was hoping that there could be away to brake it up every 12 or so months. If I started a new PST file, I would loose all my contacts and RSS feeds, calendar, etc. I have it set to auto archive every week, and I have it set to archive everything over 30 days. I was looking for Outlook to take anything over 30 days and put it in it's own file, called Archive1 or something. Is this something doable?

Thanks. :)

The archive is 30gb? If you are archiving stuff older than 30 days, that is all you can do - outlook won't archive the archive. If you think the archive is too big, start a new one - set outlook to use a new pst every quarter or 6 months or whatever.

I was thinking about that, but won't I loose my Contacts, Calendar, and the rest of the personal stuff I set up? I have about 50-75 contacts and I don't want to create new contacts every time I create a new PST. Also, my Archive isn't 30Gb, it's my original PST, by Archive file is only 2Gb, which is fine by me. :)

Also, if I can create a new PST file without recreating my personal stuff (Contacts, etc.) can I easily access my older PST files? Let say someone sent me an e-mail about 9 months ago, can I easily look for it in my older PST file?

Also, I have a GMail account, which created of OST file in my C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ , which I don't want there. Is there a, hopefully easy way of moving that data to my C:\Users\David\Documents\Outlook Files\ directory, so that I can have all my Outlook files in one folder? That would make it very easy to back up my Outlook data if I every decide to do a clean install of my OS, and/or if I get a newer PC? I tried allot of the Outlook Backup programs, one that I purchased, and it didn't back up everything. I found it easier to just backup the folder my PST file was in?

I know this is allot, but hopefully this might make things more easier for me, and it helps me to learn to use Outlook more efficiently.

Thank You. :D

Okay, I will, but can you tell me how without loosing my contacts, rules, etc.? That would solve a big portion of my problem.

Thank You.
