Previewers, Outlook 2013 on Windows 10

I have what I hope is a simple question, for newly-installed desktop Outlook 2013 on Windows 10 Pro.

The previewers that I would like are for .PDF and .WAV (forwarded landline phone messages).
I don't have any PDF readers apart from Windows 10's Reader' and its new browser. Neither installs a previewer for PDF file attachments.
I know what I used for PDF (another utility I have licensed - not Adobe's) - it installs a PDF preview for Windows Explorer and Outlook, so I could install that.
I can't recall what preview addin I used for Outlook 2010 on Windows 7.
 
if the pdf app supports preview, it should automatically work with outlook. I know abode reader or acrobat will add preview - I'm surprised the windows app doesn't (i use acrobat). There was a preview utility hack that used foxit - not sure if it works with 2013. Previewing Messages and Attachments

I have used Adobe, also Foxit PDF (several, licensed products), and PDF-XChange (licensed) - so I decided to install the PDF-XChange Edit product on this new disk, and it provides a previewer automatically.
I used this before, and it worked fine with Outlook 2010.
I was surprised that Office 2013 doesn't provide a PDF previewer, since Word 2013 has save as / read PDF options.
For the .WAV, I can find code for several (.WAV, other) previewers in a few places and I may use this to provide several previewers in one install.

But a helpful reply on Microsoft forums is here, the reply by JonCutlerMU, in part:

"I prefer screening my voicemail in Outlook and have used Windows Media Player to 'preview' .WAV files in the past.
Looks like Windows 8 defaults to it's 'Music' App as the default media player. I figured all I needed to do was change the default app to Windows Media Player. I saved a .WAV file to my desktop, did the trusty 'right-click --> Open with... --> Chose default program...' and selected Windows Media Player as my preferred app. Then I closed/reopened Outlook 2013 and now I can play the attachments."

My new disk is Windows 10 Pro so I will try that, out of interest. In Windows 10: Settings, Default Apps
