Hello. I'm having some trouble finding an answer to a very specific situation, and I think I've Googled it to death so I am reaching out to your forums.
We've set up a Contact list app on SharePoint 2013 that synchronizes with Outlook 2013/2010 so that we can move all contacts in an existing PST file rather than re-creating them from scratch (nearly 1000 records). We are able to connect the SP list to Outlook, then drag/drop each contact card from the old list to the new one. Everything is working perfectly except for one problem that I can't seem to work around. This particular list is being used as a customer profile database, which includes email communications and various document types attached to some of the contact cards. As you know, Outlook allows duplicate attachments, and I have discovered that a lot of the attachments have the same name. SharePoint doesn't like duplicate file names, and if one were to manually upload duplicates, a warning message appears. In this situation, we are not uploading anything to SharePoint, only drag/drop inside of Outlook to perform the sync. SharePoint truncates attachments at the first duplicate, and the rest of the attachments are not included in the record.
It will be fine for us to manually update the existing records and train the users going forward on naming the attachments correctly, but I am looking for a workflow or code that may be used in Outlook or SharePoint to prevent this problem for future entries so that no attachments are dropped off, just in case the users forget the rules (which will happen). Thanks for any help you can provide.
