Converting outlook 2010 pop account and folders to imap with gmail

I have many years of emails sorted into an extensive structure of folders using pop3 in Outlook. My email service is GMail. I would like to convert to IMAP so I can see my folder structure on all devices I use. How do I upload my folder structure, as well. How would I go about doing this? Does it make any difference that I save all of my emails on the GMail Pop server? Will I have duplicate emails?
 
Are the messages still in Gmail? You can upload mail from pop3 to imap by adding the account to outlook as an imap account, but if you didn't delete it from the server, its still there. You need to delete everything on the server to upload the mail in the folders.

Steps:

Add account to Outlook as an imap account

Set POP3 to not download mail (Ctrl+Alt+S, Edit send and receive group), select the pop account and deselect the option to check incoming mail.

Copy folders from pop3 folders to imap - do one folder at a time and give it time to sync. Check the account at gmail.com to verify the folders are uploading correctly and creating labels.

Remove pop3 account from profile.
