Starting up outlook in Windows 8

I have windows 8 and am trying to install Outlook 2010 (Not sure if I have 32 or 64 bit) and as I initiate outlook a separate " Windows Security" box starts up simultaneously asking for my password and user name. If I close this box Outlook tries to initiate but another box appears stating, "Connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action".

This is a new install so I have never reconfigured Outlook on this computer. All other software loaded and works fine.

close Outlook, go to Control panel and search for Mail. Delete the profile and create a new one and add you email account to it.

Your instructions worked like a charm Diane, thank you very much for helping me through this issue. Your instructions saved me $150 by avoiding MS Call Center Help.
