Click "A" to see all email from people with names starting with A... etc

I have a user here who used to have their emails grouped alphabetically by the "From" field. It also used to have them all collapsed alphabetically, so he could just click "A" would expand & show email from everyone with names starting with "A". Clicking "B" would should expand & show email from everyone with names starting with "B". etc etc.

Anyone know how to get this is done? The setting is really well hidden.

Do you mean click the A on the keyboard or click an A button on the screen?




What version of Outlook did they use where they had that view?




The view I think you want is View tab > Arrangement: From; Expand/Collapse > Collapse all. That will group by email address but not by first letter. I don't know anyway to get them grouped by letter.
 
Outlook 2010. Very similar to if you click the VIEW tab then click "From" in the arrangement box, then Collapse All Groups. That sorts your email by the sender's name. You can click "Amanda Smith" and see all of the email from Amanda, etc etc.

But, this user wants it collapsed even further. He wants all the names collapsed alphabetically - so Amanda and everyone else starting with A is collapsed into a group called: "A"
 
I don't think that is possible - i tried using a card view but it doesn't group. It also also not very good for email. :)

What may be possible, but mostly unmanagable, is a custom view that only shows the the groups beginning with A. I haven't tested this view yet, but I think using From begins with A (on the Advanced tab) will work. You'd need 26 views... unless you combined seversl letters.

Using the From arrangement with the groups collapsed, she can jump to a letter by pressing it on the keyboard- this is what I'd do. (It's a handy shortcut and works in all folders and views in outlook.)
