email folders appear empty, at first click

this has been happening for several months, OL13. I click on email Inbox, or a sub folder, and it appears empty, no email shown. I have to click on another folder and then back to that folder, to get the email to appear. doesn't happen every time. but occasionally.

anyone else experience this? any possible fix?
 
This is happening with a pop3 account? Try resetting the view on a folder and see if it helps. If not, I'd probably use scanpst on the data file and see if that fixes it.

Sometimes resetting the view on a folder isn't enough and you need to clean out all views using the cleanviews switch. I always hesitate to recommend this as a first step because it wipes out all custom views. If you don't use custom views, then it doesn't matter and you can use it first.

Close Outlook, then click Windows key+R to open the Run command), type or paste

outlook.exe /cleanviews

and press enter. Note, there is a space between outlook.exe and the /.
 
there a number of pop3 accounts, but I doubt that it has anything to do with the issue. some of the folders contain email that is dragged to them after reading.

I tried scanpst, it claims to have found and repaired an error, so time will tell if problem reappears.

and yes, I am reluctant to delete custom views. especially since it is not known if this will fix it. I can try resetting the view if problem reappears.
