Outlook dialog about retention policy

One of my users gets the following message when moving items from the Inbox to another folder in Outlook 2010 connected to Exchange 2010. We have retention policies configured for moving items older than 1 year to the online archive mailbox.

However this message is for items which are less than a year old. Any idea?

You'll get this warning message when the mailbox has a retention policy applied. It's just warning you that moving the item to a new folder has the potential to change the current policy applied to the item.

for example, if its in the inbox with a 1 year policy, and you move an old item to a folder with 6 month policy, it's now governed by the 6 month policy. Whatever that policy is, delete or archive, it will be applied if the item's age reaches or exceed 6 months. It could be gone from the folder tomorrow because of the policy on that folder.

I am more clear on the meaning of the error message now. Yes we do have a retention policy but it's a pretty simple one where everything that's older than a year is moved to the archive mailbox. And this user indicates that these items were being moved from her Inbox to another sub-folder in the same mailbox....which would imply the same policy applies. Not sure why they are still seeing this error then.
 
It's not really an error - its just a warning that there is the potential for a change in policy. Outlook isn't bright enough to know both folders have the same policy. :)

Click the don't show box to make it go away.
