Dazed & Confused With Outlook 2013

So here I am neck deep into Outlook 2013 and drowning. I'm a loooooooong time hotmail.com user and thought I had the hotmail/Outlook 2013 issue(s) solved. Apparently not! I continue running into roadblocks so I'm looking for help. I'm running a single version of Outlook 2013. No servers, etc. 1 PC and a smart phone. I want to be able to sync with my current hotmail.com account and have my email available on my iPhone as well as my PC. Right now I'm set up as an EAS account with hotmail. So I was trying to import a csv file into my calendar. NOPE can't do that according to the error. WHAT? I can't create unique folders that I want to appear on my iPhone and have certain pieces of mail in that folder sync'd between Outlook 2013 and the iPhone.

So I'm at the end of my rope. What should be the correct account type set up between Outlook 2013 and hotmail to allow me to sync mail to my ios smartphone, import/export calendar and contact entries etc. without getting all hung up with errors, copying files into .pst data files, blah, blah, blah. Surely, there has to be a simpler way!

The EAS account is the correct account type. Because syncing a boat-load of appointments up to the server is buggy, you need an ics file to move them from an outlook data file or another calendar to outlook.com. (They are working on fixing it, but I don't have an ETA.) If you only have the csv, create a pst file in outlook, add a calendar folder and import the csv then save it as an ics.

As for folders, you can't just sync some folders - EAS is like an imap or exchange account and all folders sync. (You can unsubscribe from imap folders, but every computer you set the account up on will be missing the unsubscribed folders.) Only the inbox will sync to the iphone regularly - if you open the other folders, they'll sync at that time.
