I was using Outlook 2007, with several .pst files open. Outlook crashed, and closed. When I loaded it back up, one of my .pst folders wasn't open. So exited Outlook and looked at the folder containing the .pst files. The folder that was missing appeared as a .tmp file. I've tried to open it from within Outlook but this didn't work. I then tried to rename it as a .pst file and open it. However, this didn't work either. I've tried running it through ScanPST, but after some time processing, it tells me that it isn't a valid .pst file.
So, is there any way to get the e-mails / file open?
The temp file is definitely in the same folder as my other .pst files. I can't find any other temp file, located anywhere else on the drive. So I can only guess that the one I am looking at is the temp one that has been created.
It sounds like the pst is gone. It's really weird because, while crashing can corrupt a pst, it shouldn't destroy a pst completely. The file size would remain the same but the data would not be accessible. It sounds like it could be a ghost pst that outlook created when it couldn't find the other pst.
The tmp file is just a working temp, it's not your missing pst. Sorry.
