Rename Outlook 2010 .PST Files

Hi,

I need to change the names of a number of Outlook .PST files. By this I mean, how the files are named in Windows and not in Outlook. All are POP3.

When I do this, I get errors when I open Outlook to say the file cannot be found, even when I point to the file.

After changing the names, try repointing Outlook to the new pst files using Control panel, Mail. Use the method here - http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/config/how-to-move-the-imap-personal-folder-pst/

Note that you can't rename imap data files, only pst files used by POP3 or for calendar and contacts.

I'm not sure I follow exactly what needs to be done for POP3 accounts. For clarity, I have 2 issues (see attached document). Firstly, I want the ACTUAL pst file name to be the same as the name when viewed in Outlook folder pane. Secondly, I created a new personal folder and it saved in the wrong folder. I need to move this.

BY the way, is there a way that I can set the default "save" folder for new pst files.

Sometimes such issues occurs while working with Outlook 2010 with Windows 7.

Go for free inbuilt utility provided by Microsoft Scanpst.exe, It helps you in overcoming the error Ox8004010F Outlook Data File Cannot Be Accessed".

Path of Scanpst.exe: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12.

The only scanpst.exe I could find was in OFFICE14, so I used that on one (of three) problem files. It found only minor errors and I elected to fix. Opened Outlook and get the same error for that particular folder.

The pst files are definitely NOT corrupted. I can still drill into the folders in the folder pane and see all the subfolders and the individual e-mails.

There is clearly a problem with configuration in Outlook and I URGENTLY need assistance.

I've narrowed my issue down to the following:-

See the 2 screen grabs in

the attached.

The first shows a file path in "selected account delivers

new messages to the following location". When I load up Outlook, there is NO

send/receive error.

The second has a blank path in "selected account

delivers new messages to the following location". When I load up Outlook, there

IS a send/receive error (Ox8004010F)

I've tried to point this to the

correct folder by clicking on "Change Folder" and pointing to the relevant

Inbox, but it will not save.

1. Outlook is closed

2. Open Mail from Control Panel

3. Click on "Show Profiles"

4. Double click on the profile (there is only one)

5. Select "Email Accounts"

6. Select the account with no path

7. Click on "Change Folder"

8. Select the Inbox for the folder selected

9. Click "New Outlook Data File"

10. Select "Outlook data file (.pst) from the New Outlook Data File Window

11. Point to the relevant .pst file in Create or Open Outlook Data File Window + OK

12. Click OK

13. Result = the "Selected account delivers new messages to the following location" IS BLANK

14. Close > Close > OK

Those are the correct steps. I assume you've restarted outlook at least once?
